U.S. based Virtual Assistants: Don’t Panic!

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I’m inspired to write this post after I followed a topic through THREE different bloggers blogging about the same issue and connected by comments. I figured I would get in on the thread because it’s a subject pretty relevant to what I do and something I wrote about in my newsletter.

U.S. based Virtual Assistants: You are not in danger! Seriously. Don’t panic.

Why am I writing this? Well, I should probably make note of the posts that I read which inspired me. The first was Elizabeth Pott Weinstein’s post about what virtual assistants do, which I didn’t actually read first. I came around to it. I found out about it first after reading a comment someone had made about it while I was browsing Elizabeth’s other posts.

I thought the comment was interesting, so I followed it to someone named Jonathan Robert’s post about how you can find a VA for $3 an hour and have it be a valuable experience for you (that’s my reader’s digest version).

Finally his post led me to the vaclassroom.com blog post about whether or not western VAs are threatened by low-wage international competition. That’s where my inspiration for this post took off. (more…)

Self-Employed Moms Mastermind Group

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

When I first joined Biznik, I read an article by Kristen Marie Schuerlein about creating a mastermind group. I wholeheartedly admit that I had absolutely no clue what she was talking about when she said mastermind, even though I actually have owned Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill who first came up with the concept. (Obviously I owned it but never really read it - I tried, though).

If you don’t know what a Mastermind Group is, Karyn Greenstreet’s article on the subject is very informative. You may even be convinced enough to buy her $12 e-book on how to create a for-profit mastermind group (I did). What I really like about the concept of a Mastermind is that it puts into practice the real “two heads are better than one” theory. Running your own business is tough stuff, so taking an hour a month to talk it out with some others who are in the same boat will be cathartic personally and professionally.

Well, if my interest was kindled by Kristen Marie Schuerlein’s article, it was definitely solidified by Karyn Greenstreet’s. I am not starting a for-profit one at this time (although a VA-centric mastermind group is coming down the pike). But I would like to start a “Self-Employed Moms Mastermind Group” - totally free - as a way to develop a team of like-minded moms that can build, grow, and succeed together. I’d like to limit the group number to five-seven moms at this time but I’m willing to facilitate the formation of additional groups if the demand is there.

This group will meet monthly over the phone. This is TRUE mastermind in that the group members set the agenda, spend almost the entire time sharing, swapping ideas, playing devil’s advocate and helping each other succeed. This is not a club masked as a mastermind, where you pay membership dues and listen to someone talk. The point of a mastermind is to participate! I’d like to keep it that way and give our wallets a break for a minute.

So, if you are interested in participating with me, please let me know and I’ll share the details. You can contact me via the contact form on this blog or by going to my website’s contact form.

Cheers,

Tia

New kid on the (Blogging) block - Leexan Hong/CTE Healthcare Communications

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Well, well, well! It’s about time that my good friend & SUCCESSFUL serial entrepreneur joined the blog community and graced us with his experience, insight and tidbits of good advice.

Leexan Hong (friends call him Xan) is president of CTE Healthcare Communications (formerly X-Marketing), based in Philadelphia. Xan’s blog, My Life as an Entrepreneur, is located at http://blog.leexanhog.com and is also listed on my Blogroll.

Xan is a self-described “serial entrepreneur” but I need to clarify that he is actually successful. That is key - it’s quite possible to be a serial entrepreneur without actually accomplishing anything (some of us are still in the process of “success” - aren’t we always?) He successfully started his own marketing firm (which was initially out of his home) and eventually grew and transformed that into now what is CTE Healthcare Communications. He’s also successful in real estate among other things. I’ll let you read Xan’s story for yourself.

Welcome to the blog club, Xan! And a thousand congrats on the launch of CTE!!

Cheers,

Tia, All American Admin

Motherhood Incorporated

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

So I have been invited to be a guest bogger on Motherhood Incorporated’s well-read blog. That group is amazing. It is so refreshing to have a place I can go to read for 15-20 minutes about other mothers and their adventures in mothering and business. It’s a serious stress reliever!

The Motherhood Incorporated blog is located at http://www.motherhoodincorporated.com/wordpressgeneral/ and I suggest linking to it (like I have). The readership is fantastic and there are plenty of authors, so you’ll have a wide variety of things to read on a nearly daily basis.

Here’s to mothers and work from home mothers everywhere!

Cheers,

Tia
