I don’t want to work from home today

Have you ever had one of those days when you just don’t feel like working from home? I’ve only been at this for a little over six months at this point. If you’ve got a lot of experience with this, share some secrets for overcoming the work at home blahs!

I’m thinking trying these. If you have thoughts or advice, please share!

  • Changing the scenery? Maybe moving things around might help.
  • Taking it outside…or away? I could go work from somewhere with Wi-Fi today just to break up the monotony a bit.

I just read an article that talks about co-working, which is a new trend. This involves teleworkers gathering at a central physical place in order to experience some social time while at the same time working on their tasks.

There are businesses; such as, CubeSpace and Citizen Space that make co-working easy by offering a place for co-workers to gather.

If you feel comfortable, you could setup a co-working session at your home or some other place that others will enjoy working. In exchange for offering others you wi-fi connection and maybe a few pots of coffee, you will benefit from the sharing of ideas and experiences with others.

This is only a suggestion. Think about it.

Thank you for letting me share…

Thanks so much, Lawren! I actually HAVE heard of co-working and looked into it here in Erie. I may have to just go ahead and bite the bullet and do it.

Office Nomads is the company I had heard about recently.

Another tip I discovered today when dealing with the work from home blahs: STOP WORKING. :) Especially if you’re like me and you are pretty much working round the clock, the best thing when you get tired of the atmosphere is to stop working and do something else. Today, I put together my son’s new baby bouncer for an hour. It was instant relief.

Tia, we all feel the blahs some days when working from home. And, you have the right attitude! Get up and walk away from the work for a bit. Take a quick walk around the neighborhood or your yard with your baby. Just have some cuddle time with your child. Set the timer and read a summer romance book for 30 minutes. Call a girlfriend to chat for 10 minutes and my absolute favorite is schedule lunch out with a friend(s) once a week or once a month.

Think of ways to have social interaction and soak up that one-on-one face time. When I started working from home nearly 9 years ago I felt like I was wilting inside from loneliness of real face time interaction until I realized how many times I really could add a face to my day. (My child was 8 months then and I was craving adult time.)

Ok I have never heard of coworking but what an excellent idea! I am here in Harrisburg I wonder if there is anything like that around. I know I am STILL in my pajamas and even though some people would kill for that it leaves me unmotivated and feeling yucky! Sometimes I do g out to Wegman’s and sit in their cafe area to work….

  5. JBerg Says:

I absolutely agree with Karen! Being in your pajamas at 11:00 in the afternoon can leave you unmotivated even though you are working! I try to leave the house even if it’s just to get the mail (our mailbox is a mile away)! We all can get a little tired of the scenery- isn’t that why they give 15 minute breaks every two hrs in the workplace?
