To work from home…

or not to work from home, that’s the question!

Working from home. Seems ideal, doesn’t it? Waking up, sending out e-mails over breakfast… modifying a website while watching “The View”… responding to quote requests while burping the baby. Well, recently I’ve had cause to wonder if working from home actually ISN’T the ideal everyone says it is.

Especially when your children are at home. And that’s the perfect reason to stay home, right? For the kids? It depends. If your children are very young, like my son, they need constant attention or looking-after. It’s quite difficult to look after a baby or toddler while working.

So that got me thinking and thus the reason for this blog. Maybe working from home isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I would gladly get a sitter just to get four hours of worktime to myself. But then, what would be the real point behind working from home, right? Ugh. Such a dilemma!

Even before I had a child, working from home didn’t usually work out the way I wanted to. I found that at work, I had a routine that seemed to be more productive than my at home routine. I went into work, got coffee, talked to colleagues, cleared my desk, etc. I found that at home, I was so easily distracted by the television, or the mess and clutter, or the neighbors’ dogs, or the FedEx guy, or whatever.

I know that there are people who find working from home awesome and amazing. If you’re out there, drop me a line or suggest a URL to an article that discusses how best to work from home. I’d appreciate it!

Til then… be successful, be blessed, and be happy!

Tia
